Burj Projection - The Grand Tour

This is pretty cool. A clip was projected on the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, from The Grand Tour in celebration of the seasons finale.

If you don't know, the Burj Khalifa is the wolrd's tallest building standing at 830m to the tip. (2723 feet) That's just over half a mile tall. It has 163 floors.

Wonder how much that took out of the budget

Here are some facts about it:

  • Tallest building in the world
  • Tallest free-standing structure in the world
  • Highest number of stories in the world
  • Highest occupied floor in the world
  • Highest outdoor observation deck in the world
  • Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world
  • Tallest service elevator in the world

I've heard that it wasn't actually displayed on the Burj but it was CGI which essentially a lot of people can do from their computers. But not too sure how reliable of a source that is. Nonetheless it still looks cool, the video is a bit unclear but ah, why not.

From a cost perspective it makes sense and much easier to do CGI than going through the entire process of having it displayed on that tower. If Hollywood finds it handy for the smallest of things then there's no reason why TGT (who likely has a CGI team) can do it too.

Being a shot at night, it makes CGI even easier, not nearly as dynamic and detail oriented.

Either way, if it was CGI or not, it definitely gives them something interesting and wowing for the public when they released it. Caught a good amount of buzz for just the thought that it "could have been" on there
